Traveling in Rajanstan, in Northern India, was a bit chillier. George has always told me we do not need to carry everything for any emergency. If you get sick, we will get medicine. If you get cold, we will buy coats. So in Udaipur (photo above), we went to the Tibetan market and bought yak wool blankets, hats, gloves, a coat for me and a heavy sweatshirt for him. We normally say, "We are bad shoppers" because we buy nothing but at the Tibetan Market we shopped!
I loved the Lake Palace and our hostel, Dream Heaven. Jaipur and Pushkar also had amazing sites and I cannot wait to write posts about all of them. Our journey through Lucknow and on to Allahabad for Kumbh Mela was memorable. The Largest Human Gathering on the Planet Ever! I did at times feel like I would wake up from being in what seemed like an episode of the "Twilight Zone." From there, we went to Varanasi with its iconic buildings and burning ghats and enjoyed several days of the sites and sounds.
Leaving India by overnight train, bus, and tuk-tuk after three months was a journey of over twenty-four hours with numerous delays. Our first week began in Lumbini, Buddha's birthplace and the home of the Eternal Peace Flame. I loved our OSHO kundalini meditation session and we may do a weekend retreat.
We hiked 3 days in Tansen with information from GETUP Palpa and the City View Home Stay. Tansen is not touristy and filled with friendly locals who taught us Nepalese. I learned to say, "Malai ek cucur Momo dinus" which made for many laughs as I was trying to ask for "one chicken momo please," however, cucur means dog and cucura means chicken. OOPS!
At this moment, we are in Pokhara. We walked with two men from the army as security through the jungle to the Peace Pagoda for a phenomenal view. We have acquired a few more warm pieces of clothing and will soon rent down jackets and sleeping bags for our next bigger hikes and treks!
Thank you to everyone who has shared our journey literally on the road with us or by reading and commenting on our newsletter and website! Lisa and George (Click here to sign up for this newsletter. )
